Medirest Food Services Team Awarded Institute of Hospitality in HealthCare National Sustainability Award

The Medirest Food Services team at the Queensland Children’s Hospital were recently awarded the prestigious Institute of Hospitality in HealthCare National Sustainability Award. This award recognises their innovation and dedication to delivering not only a high-quality service that prioritises the health of Queensland’s children and their families, but also sets a national standard in sustainable practices.

Collaborating with the Children’s Health Queensland Dietetics and Sustainability teams, Medirest has delivered kitchen and ward based organic waste management strategies that have increased organic waste capture and composting from 20 per cent to 85 per cent, or approximately 22,000kg/year.

For many years, Medirest have been committed to rescuing and donating non-perishable food items to the OzHarvest program, providing around 1,120 meals (580kg) to the community annually. With Medirest focusing on incorporating patient experience data and food salvage principles into CHQ menu design, this helps to minimise waste and meet the needs of children in QCHs care.
